Additional Information

Each organization will be provided the following by City
of Cupertino:
Paints (16 oz.): White, Yellow, Red, Blue, Green, Black
10 Cups for Paint (12 oz.)
Assortment of brushes
10 popsicle sticks for mixing
1 bucket of water
This is a FREE event
All painting shall be done by members of the Youth Led Organizations
One application per YLOs
Approved fall-themed designs only
Displays must not include adult, political, violent, or socially insensitive
artwork. Keep it family-friendly.
Windows will be assigned by the Parks and Recreation Department
Step ladders must be provided by your Youth Led Organization.

REGULAR TEEN COMMISSION MEETING
CALL TO ORDER
At 6:04 p.m. Staff Liaison, Sonya Lee, called the Teen Commission meeting to order.
ROLL CALL
Present: Biswari, Chen, Cheung, Gupta, Hu, Kumar, Mukherjee. Absent: none. Staff: Sonya Lee, Robert
Kaufman, Kirsten Squarcia.
CEREMONIAL MATTERS & PRESENTATIONS
1. Subject: Swearing-in Ceremony for Incoming 2023-2025 Teen Commissioners
Recommended Action: Swear in the five incoming Teen Commissioners for the 2023-2025 Teen
Commissioner term.
City Clerk, Kirsten Squarcia, swore in Commissioner Chen, Commissioner Hu, Commissioner
Kumar, Commissioner Mukherjee.
2. Subject: Teen Commission Orientation
Recommended Action: Receive an overview of the Commissioner's Handbook from City Clerk.
City Clerk Squarcia gave a short presentation on the Brown Act.
Commissioners had questions about communicating with each other outside of commission
meetings. This is acceptable as long as commission business is not discussed.
Commissioners had a question regarding liking or sharing a social media post. This should only
be done for events to encourage participation. Posts that have an opinion or stance on a
potential agenda item should not be liked, shared, or commented on.
3. Subject: Community Outreach Presentation
Recommended Action: Receive Community Outreach Presentation.
Commissioners watched a video by Communication Outreach Specialist, Branton Curt, which
reviewed the Cupertino Style Guide and Social Media Policy.

4. Subject: Approval of Minutes - August 9, 2023
Recommended Action: Review and approve the minutes from the Teen Commission meeting
on August 9, 2023.
Commissioner Mukherjee motioned to approve minutes. Commissioner Biswari seconded the
motion. Minutes approved. The minutes were approved with a vote of 9 yes, 0 no, 0 abstained.

5. Subject: 2023-2024 Chair and Vice Chair Selection
Recommended Action: Select a Chair and Vice Chair for the 2023-2024 Teen Commission term.
Commissioner Shah was voted in as the 23/24 term Chair.
Commissioner Cheung was voted in as the 23/24 Vice Chair.

meeting at sonyal@cupertino.org.
The City’s Parks and Recreation Department will work with chosen YLOs to prepare an organization highlight on the
City’s social media channels.
Highlights on social media will be periodic. This application process does not guarantee that a YLO
will be chosen to be highlighted. Teen Commission is not required to highlight a minimum number of YLOs .

City of Cupertino Teen Commission would like to hear from local Youth Led
Organizations (YLOs) serving the residents and community in a unique way.
What is a YLO? YLOs are organizations that are led by youth in the community.
The organizations may serve non-youth and teen populations.
The Teen Commission has developed a process to highlight on social media those YLOs
that are found to provide a unique, interesting, or important service to the community.
Eligibility requirements to apply
Organization must be organized and led by
students currently enrolled in middle or high
school
Organization must serve primarily Cupertino
residents and community
Organization must have been active for at least
six months
Organization must present to Teen Commission
to be considered
