Commissioner feedback on highlighting Youth Led Organizations through City social media –
Cupertino Teen Commission Minutes August 9, 2023
Commissioners would like to see the program in which they evaluate YLO’s and recommend YLO’s to
be highlighted on City social media.
In response to highlighting only one to two YLO’s per year:
- It is not inclusive enough
- It would limit the number of YLO’s that might be interested
- YLO’s would have to wait an entire year to apply again if not chosen to be highlighted
- Commissioners would like to recognize YLO’s more often
Commissioners would be willing to evaluate applications through special committees or through email
before meetings so as not to take so much time during the meeting.
Commissioners would be willing to create the social meeting post and submit to the Marketing
Specialist for approval and posting to help with workload for staff.
In response to what should be considered for recognizing a YLO:
- Impact and number of people reached
- Does it fit with City goals
- Relevance
- Impact to Residents
- How frequently, how often are they providing a service
- How active is the YLO
- Is the YLO unique, is it providing an unduplicated service or idea
- How many other organizations are doing something similar
- Does it serve just teens or does it serve all ages
The recognition post could indicate the factor that caused Teen Commission to choose the YLO.
Other ways Teen Commission could recognize YLO’s:
- Booths at City events when what the YLO does is complimentary to the event
- Flyers put up in City facilities
- Provide a tiered approach to recognizing YLO’s with the highest being something like a social
media post and the lowest being putting out flyers
Staff discussed the possibility of a Teen Resource Fair in spring:
- This might be an opportunity for a limited number of YLO’s to have a booth
3. Subject: Walking tour of McClellan Ranch Park trail to Blackberry Farm
Recommended Action: Take a walking tour on the Stevens Creek Trail from McClellan Ranch Preserve
to Blackberry Farm Pool and back.
Commissioners walked the corridor trail from McClellan Ranch Preserve to Blackberry Farm picnic
area and back.
