Anika Karandikar and team presented their ElderAid App. The app connects seniors in need of help with teens interested in helping in the community and getting volunteer hours. Commissioners had questions about the security of the app in reference to connecting seniors and teens directly. Commissioners also asked about several features of the app to deal with language barriers, health concerns, verification of adults and teens, verification of volunteer hours, ability to message on the app, presentation of tasks in the app, and monitoring the people using the app. Commissioners had technical questions about the launch of the app, the testing phase, use of Android versus IOS, and data storage. Commissioners made suggestions such as making the text bigger, providing a searchable radius from teens for the tasks, listing the tasks in the app by date, adding health warnings, working with service clubs rather than schools for teen verification, and incorporating the Presidential Service Awards. Several commissioners expressed how impressed they were with the app. There were a few questions about the next steps for the team in terms of testing and moving to IOS.
