June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month Each June, in honor of the Stonewall Uprising of 1969 in New York City, members of the LGBTQIA+ community celebrate Pride Month. This is a time to recognize the positive contributions of members of the local and greater community, both past and present, and to recall history. Pride events are held across the summer, including San Francisco Pride at the end of the month and Silicon Valley Pride in August. Several libraries are marking Pride Month with book displays and colorful decorations. Some are also holding programming. Check out our Events Calendar for details. The County of Santa Clara is also holding a Pride Flag ceremony (similar to the version shown above) on June 27 at noon in front of the Hall of Administration. Many local cities hold their own similar flag raisings. Resources offered by the Library like Kanopy and Freegal offer special Pride-themed content. Also, keep an eye on our website for blog posts about the month and staff booklists. The County’s Office of LGBTQ Affairs has more information about services and upcoming events.
