LIBRARY COMMISSION MEETING
CALL TO ORDER
At 7:00 p.m., Chair Zhao called the meeting to order at the Cupertino Library, 10800 Torre
Avenue, Room 201A.

CEREMONIAL MATTERS AND PRESENTATIONS
1. Subject: Receive Email Phishing Campaign Presentation from the City’s Infrastructure
Division
Recommended Action: Receive Email Phishing Campaign presentation from the City's
Infrastructure Division.
Iqraam Nabi and Toan Quach, Innovation Technology Network Specialists, presented on cyber
threat landscape, ransomware/phishing/malware, and the City’s cybersecurity defense.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions.
Chair Zhao requested clarification on action needed from commissioners regarding suspicious
emails. IT Network Specialist Nabi clarified that you can either report it to the IT Department or
delete from your inbox and deleted items.

2. Subject: March 9, 2023 Library Commission Special Meeting Minutes
Recommended Action: Review and approve the March 9, 2023 Library Commission special
meeting minutes.
Vice Chair Panda motioned to approve the March 9, 2023 Library Commission special meeting
minutes as submitted. Commissioner Sreekanth seconded. Motion carried unanimously.

3. Subject: Cupertino Poet Laureate Annual Calendar Update
Recommended Action: Receive an update on the Cupertino Poet Laureate annual calendar.
Poet Laureate Keiko O’Leary reviewed the updated annual calendar (Attachment A). Clarified
the date of the Multilingual Poetry and Prose event in April will take place on Sunday, April 30,
and the Poet Laureate will follow-up regarding sign -ups for feature readers.
Poet Laureate O’Leary requested clarification on marketing the upcoming events.
Commissioners will help assist in sharing upcoming events with their social networks. Bryant
Bao, Acting Cupertino Community Librarian, clarified that the Library can advertise through
the events webpage, monthly calendar, individual flyers, and social media closer to the date.
Poet Laureate O’Leary requested feedback from the Commission regarding a Cupertino Poet
Laureate mailing list. Commissioner Pan encouraged the Poet Laureate to use any previous
mailing lists . Commissioner Chokshi will help maintain a Poet Laureate mailing list moving
forward. City Staff will follow-up on options for sending out Poet Laureate Program emails to
the mailing list.
Commissioner Sreekanth left the meeting at 8 p.m.

STAFF AND COMMISSION REPORTS
Molly James, Recreation Manager, provided a Staff Liaison Update on the following:
- For Commissioners who missed the Mandatory Commissioner Handbook Training last
Thursday, March 30, City Staff will be following up as you will still be required to watch
the recorded training.
- The City is conducting the Community Assessment Survey for Older Adults in
partnership with Polco to better understand the contributions that adults 50+ make to
their communities, as well as the needs they have and challenges they experience.
o The online survey is open n ow through Tuesday, April 25 at
polco.us/opencupertino23 for all residents age 50 and up to participate.
o Please note the survey is being conducted through Polco’s online platform, and
the link will take you to a non -city webpage.
- Big Bunny 5k – Saturday, April 8 at Civic Center Plaza
o 7 a.m. Registration and Packet Pick-Up Opens
o 8:30 a.m. 5k Race
o 9:30 a.m. Kids Fun Run

COMMISSIONER ATTENDANCE AT UPCOMING MEETINGS AND EVENTS
Commissioner Chokshi will attend the April 12 Mayor’s Commissioners meeting.
FUTURE AGENDA SETTING
Vice Chair Panda requested a Poet Laureate Subcommittee change. Commissioner Pan
seconded.
