REGULAR TEEN COMMISSION MEETING
CALL TO ORDER
At 6:11 p.m. Vice Chair Halambi called the Teen Commission meeting to order.
ROLL CALL
Present: Cheung, Ding, Gupta, Halambi, Luu, Qin, Shah, Tarra. Absent: Kasamsetty, Kumar. Staff: Sonya Lee,
Robert Kaufman, D’Miles Salmon.
CEREMONIAL MATTERS & PRESENTATIONS
1. Subject: Presentation on Student Leadership Conference at Santa Clara Office of Education
Recommended Action: Receive a presentation on Student Leadership Conference at the Santa Clara
Office of Education from Shreya Shetty, Outreach Director, Cupertino High School.
Shreya gave an overview of the upcoming conference. She indicated that the conference teaches CASC
leadership skills. The panelists are adults, but the conference attendees are youth.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
2. Subject: Approval of Minutes – February 8, 2023
Recommended Action: Review and approve the minutes from the Teen Commission meeting on
February 8, 2023.
Commissioner Tarra motioned to approve minutes. Commissioner Shah seconded the motion. Minutes
approved.

3. Subject: Update on McClellan Ranch Preserve and Facilities
Cupertino Teen Commission Minutes March 8, 2023
Recommended Action: Receive a presentation from Recreation Coordinator, D’Miles Salmon, on
McClellan Ranch Preserve Programs and Facilities and provide feedback on future potential programs.
Commission Questions:
Will teens receive training for stewardship program?
Are there any overnight camps?
Where is the application for LIT’s?
What is the time commitment for LIT’s?
Do Recreation Leaders work for the whole summer?
When is the EEC open?
How often is Blacksmith demonstrations?
Do LIT’s and summer staff work the summer camps?
What is the difference in work between LIT’s and summer staff?
Can Teen Commissioners apply? Can Teen Commissioners be LIT’s?
Are the opportunities for volunteering year-round at McClellan?
What are the summer camp hours?
Comment:
A Commissioner’s AP Biology class comes to McClellan as part of their class curriculum.
4. Subject: Update to the Youth Led Organization Process for Fiscal Year 2022/2023
Recommended Action: Receive an update on the Window Decorating for the Youth Led Organizations
Process for Fiscal Year 2022-2023 from Recreation Manager, Sonya Lee.
Sonya Lee gave an update on the process for the Window Decorating event for Youth Led
Organizations. She showed the three artwork designs submitted. She invited the Teen Commission to
decorate a window. The Commission agreed that Commissioner Cheung would design artwork for the
window.
5. Subject: Mayor’s Meeting Attendance
Recommended Action: Receive an update on Mayor’s Meeting from Teen Commission Liaison, Sonya
Lee, and discuss Teen Commission Attendance.
The Commission discussed and agreed that they would not send a representative to the Mayor’s
Meeting because that person would have to miss the Teen Commission meeting and would be charged
with an absence. The Teen Commission will give updates through the liaison to be read at the Mayor’s
meeting.

o Robert Kaufman, Teen Coordinator, provided a staff update.

o Sonya Lee asked for volunteers to speak at the Intergenerational Event. Commissioners
Gupta, Halambi, and Cheung agreed to speak.
• Commissioner Updates
o No updates.
COMMISSIONER ATTENDANCE AT UPCOMING MEETINGS AND EVENTS
• As decided an update will be sent in lieu of sending a commissioner.
FUTURE AGENDA SETTING
No future agenda items were added.
ADJOURNMENT
At 7:49 p.m., Vice Chair Halambi adjourned the meeting.
