This was a teleconference meeting with no physical location. ROLL CALL Present: Cheung, Ding, Gupta(6:11), Kasamsetty(6:03), Kumar, Shah. Absent: Halambi, Luu. Qin, Tarra. Staff: Sonya Lee, Robert Kaufman, Rachelle Sander, Alex Greer, Christina Lopez. All commissioners teleconferenced for the meeting. CEREMONIAL MATTERS & PRESENTATIONS APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Subject: Approval of Minutes – January 11, 2023 Recommended Action: Review and approve the minutes from the Teen Commission meeting on January 11, 2023. Commissioner Gupta motioned to approve minutes. Commissioner Shah seconded the motion. Minutes approved. WRITTEN/ORAL COMMUNICATIONS No written or oral communications received. OLD BUSINESS No old business. NEW BUSINESS 2. Subject: Update to the Youth Led Organization Process for Fiscal Year 2022-23. Recommended Action: Receive an update on the Window Decorating for the Youth Led Organizations Process for Fiscal Year 22-23 from Recreation Manager, Sonya Lee. Sonya Lee gave an update on the process for the Window Decorating event for Youth Led Organizations. She clarified the application process, what materials would be provided, and the rules 7 Cupertino Teen Commission Minutes February 8, 2023 for the artwork approval. The flyer was shared and the standards for the artwork were reviewed. She stressed the desire for Commissioner’s to spread the word and to participate in the March 25 events which will include not only window decorating, but also a summer job fair and teen activities. 3. Subject: Update on the Fiscal Year 2022-23 City Work Program Item Intergenerational Engagement Recommended Action: Receive an update on the status of the Intergenerational Engagement Fiscal Year 22-23 work program item from Recreation Supervisor, Alex Greer. Alex Greer shared the flyer which calls for teen participation for the intergenerational event at the Senior Center on March 13. He indicated that this a day that most high schools will have off from school. He also shared the flyer for the actual event and reviewed some of the activities that would be part of the day. A commissioner asked how the event had been advertised. Alex indicated that the event was in the spring guide, it would be given to a teen distribution list as well as being emailed to schools. 4. Subject: Update on Citywide Special Events and working with Youth Led Organizations Recommended Action: Receive an update Citywide Special Events and working with Youth Led Organizations from Recreation Coordinator, Christina Lopez. Christina Lopez shared information through a presentation on city-wide events and the desire to work with YLO’s to provide volunteer support to the events. She showed the process of how YLO’s could get involved with the events as organizations. A commissioner asked if the YLO’s could choose which events they would work. Christina indicated that there was a lot of flexibility about which events YLO’s could work. STAFF & COMMISSION REPORTS • Staff Updates o Robert Kaufman, Teen Coordinator, provided a staff update.  Spelling Bee Recap • Thank you to Commissioners Halambi, Shah, and Chueng • First Movie Night Feb 11, Minions • Spring Brochure is out • LIT applications are open for volunteers ages 14-18 8 Cupertino Teen Commission Minutes February 8, 2023 • Revitalize Memorial Park Project o Current online survey o Virtual webinar Feb 9 • Commissioner Updates  February 8 Mayor’s meeting was held at 6 p.m. and conflicted with Teen Commission meeting, Commissioner Cheung will attend next month’s meeting if it does not conflict with the Teen Commission meeting. Sonya will communicate with Commissioner Cheung when Mayor’s meeting time is determined for March.  Next meeting may be in person. Sonya Lee indicated that she will communicate as soon as this is determined. If in person, meeting will be at Quinlan Community Center, Conference Room. COMMISSIONER ATTENDANCE AT UPCOMING MEETINGS AND EVENTS • Commissioner Cheung will attend the next Mayor’s Meeting. FUTURE AGENDA SETTING No future agenda items were added.
